Parameter development after shipment

The machine ships with a validated starting parameter set. Then comes the tune on the customer's actual production parts — geometry, coating, fixturing and shift-to-shift variation all change the answer. That tune is where the support loop lives.

The support loop

The engineer who set the parameter profile stays with the account after shipment. Video calls, controller screenshots and cross-section photos move both directions until settings lock on the customer's own production sample.

When it's typically finished

Depends on the joint: some settle in about a week, others take longer with coated dissimilar metals or fixture drift. The loop closes when the operator is producing repeatable welds, not when a calendar says so.

What gets handed off

Parameter files, controller screenshots, cross-section photos and operator notes. Kept on file so a later question starts from the actual baseline, not a reconstruction from memory.

Operator training

Training and onboarding

New operators arrive at every shift. The training layer keeps the parameter work usable long after handoff.

Remote onboarding

Video sessions covering machine safety, controller navigation, fixture setup and first-run parameter walkthrough. The dealer's application engineer or the plant supervisor can sit in, so the same context propagates onward.

Recorded sessions

Every training call is recorded and shared back for replay during shift changes and new-hire onboarding — a live tutorial the plant owns, not a whiteboard drawing that walks out the door.

Follow-up parameter drills

As the application evolves (new joint, new coating, fixture revision), additional training sessions are scoped without extra charge during the parameter-development window. Training and parameter loops run alongside each other, not sequentially.

Spare parts and consumables support

Consumables and spares run through the same channel that supplied the machine — one relationship for the ordering path, not two.

How to request

Machine model, serial number and the consumable in question (electrode class, tungsten alloy, optic type, gas nozzle, fixture spare). Part-number confirmation against the machine's build sheet happens before the quote goes back, so the wrong part does not ship.

Weld-defect troubleshooting quick-checks

The five defects below cover most of what walks into the support inbox. First-line fix first; escalate only if it does not resolve.

Weak weld / cold weld

Current too low or hold time too short for the material thickness. Check pulse width against the material-thickness combination first; adding energy or extending hold usually clears it. Reference: welding waveforms explained.

Splash / expulsion

Peak current too high for the applied force, or electrode wear has grown the contact area past spec. Recalibrate force, then dress the tip back to fresh geometry. Reference: electrode selection guide.

Discoloration (blue / straw / gray)

Coverage failure or post-flow too short. Check gas flow at the nozzle (not just the regulator) and hold post-flow long enough for the tip to cool below oxidation temperature. Reference: shielding gas guide.

Electrode sticking (resistance spot)

Almost always a coating or alloy mismatch on resistance spot lines. Base coatings (zinc, tin, brass) fuse onto the copper tip on pulse 1; a multi-pulse waveform that burns off coating on pulse 1 and welds on pulse 2 typically clears it. Reference: welding waveforms explained.

Tungsten inclusions (pulse arc / micro TIG)

Specific to pulse arc / micro TIG — tungsten is the electrode there, and coverage failure or a puddle-touch drops fragments into the weld. Confirm argon flow, check post-flow duration and inspect tip preparation for consistent geometry. Reference: electrode selection guide.

Protective glass fouling (laser)

On laser micro welders, spatter and fume deposit on the protective window between the focus lens and the workpiece. Symptoms: dropping penetration at the same parameters, then visible burn spots on the glass. Fix: replace the protective glass; if the underlying focus lens is contaminated, that's a separate service step. Faded or low-contrast marks (laser marking)

On laser marking machines, contrast loss usually points at wrong wavelength for the material (fiber on plastics that want UV, CO₂ on bare metals), wrong parameters for annealing vs surface marking, or focus offset from a shifted work-plane. Confirm the wavelength-material match first, then check the parameter recipe against the material variant.
